"The main objective I strive for when creating a sculpture or painting is that when the work is completed I have a new understanding of the materials I’ve worked with and the original questions that initially led me to want to create the work have been to a degree explored and addressed. I find gaining an understanding of how a material can be worked with and how it functions as often a feat I can achieve. On the contrary, finding suitable resolutions to my questions is something I find far less obtainable. This balance of clarity and ambiguity is important to me. It seems feelings of resolution often hint at a sense of accomplishment, while experiences surrounding an evolved or compounding type of questioning often provide me with new points of exploration. Each feeds from one another, and ultimately aid in a desire to have the studio work continue.”
