Hyland Mather (b. 1971, Oregon) is an American artist who splits his time between the Netherlands and Portugal. Best known for his use of found materials, Mather collects discarded objects and reassembles them to help them regain purpose. He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in London, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen, San Francisco, Denver, Eugene and Amsterdam.
Accompanying his studio practice, Mather has been the owner and founder of Andenken Gallery and Design since 1997. He is also a contributing writer for numerous cultural magazines and publications including Juxtapoz, HiFructose, Beautiful Decay, Very Nearly Almost, Arrested Motion, and Amadeus Magazine. The artist earned his Bachelor’s in Philosophy with a focus on Aesthetics from Colorado State University.
