Kriss Munsya (b. Kinshasa) is a photographer, filmmaker and graphic designer based in Vancouver, British Columbia (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Territories). Born in the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa, and raised in Brussels, Belgium, Munsya has been living in Canada since 2019. A self-taught artist, his multidisciplinary practice focuses on the role of race and gender in the construction of identity and memory. His work seeks to recreate his memories of racial and gendered discrimination and, through a process of reconstruction, to actively shift their meanings. Kriss Munsya's work can be found in public and private collections across North America and Europe. Munsya has collaborated or been featured in reputable publications and media outlets such as The New Yorker, Vogue, Radio-Canada, Aesthetica Magazine, Apathy is Boring and The Georgia Straight. In 2021, Munsya was a finalist for the prestigious Hopper prize. The same year, his photograph "Dream On" was acquired by the Canada Council Art Bank. In 2024, his work joined the corporate collection of Manulife and his project "Genetic Bomb" was awarded the Contemporary African Photography Prize (CAP).

Kriss Munsya (née à Kinshasa) est un photographe, réalisateur et graphiste basé à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique (territoires de Musqueam, Squamish et Tsleil-Waututh). Né à Kinshasa, capitale de la République démocratique du Congo, Munsya a grandi à Bruxelles en Belgique avant de s'établir au Canada en 2019. Artiste autodidacte, sa pratique multidisciplinaire se concentre sur la relation entre les enjeux de race et de genre et les notions d'identité et de mémoire. Son approche artistique vise à réinterpréter certaines expériences en lien avec la discrimination raciale et genrée à travers un processus de reconstruction. Les œuvres de Kriss Munsya font partie de collections publiques et privées en Amérique du Nord et en Europe. Elles ont également été mentionnées dans de nombreuses publications et médias réputés tels The New Yorker, Vogue, Radio-Canada, Aesthetica Magazine, Apathy is Boring et The Georgia Straight. En 2021, Munsya était nommé finaliste du prestigieux Hopper Prize. Cette même année, sa photographie « Dream On » a intégré la Banque d'art du Conseil des Arts du Canada. En 2024, son travail a intégré la collection de la corporation Manuvie et son projet "Bombe Génétique" lui a mérité le Prix international de la photographie africaine (CAP).
